Gold is mainly found in the form of pure, native metal. Sylvanite and calaverite are gold-bearing minerals. Gold is commonly found embedded in quartz veins, or placer stream gravels. It is mined in South Africa, the United States (Nevada, Alaska), Russia, Australia and Canada.
