Who named Guwahati?

Many ancient Hindu temples are in the city, giving it the name “City of Temples”. Once known as Pragjyotishpura (the Light of the East), Guwahati derives its name from the Assamese words “Guwa” meaning areca nut and “Haat” meaning market.
